“Oh yes, you’d be charged with treason for sure. You know what the punishment for that is, don’t you?” Peony looked positively gleeful, rubbing his hands together, “They hand you over to Jade, and then feed whatever’s left afterwards to the rappigs,”
He burst out laughing a moment later, “As long as you don’t kill me intentionally I’m sure we’ll be fine. I think Jade might even be named as default heir, huh, that’d be interesting…” he rubbed his chin, “Emperor Jade the First,”
Well that certainly didn’t sound pleasant. Despite himself, for a moment he thought the emperor was actually being serious- and couldn’t help but look at him with a confused gaze.
However, the laughter gave the joke away- and Ginji sighed. “Geeze… Don’t joke like that, that was actually scary!” After all, he knew that, out of all people, you really needed to be afraid of what Jade would do to you. “Jade would make a horrible Emperor… You’re much better fit for the job.” Peony was kind- and Jade was, well… Jade. “Though you should be finding an heir, shouldn’t you? Wouldn’t want to subject Malkuth to the rule of Emperor Jade. Certainly you must have thought about marrying by now.”
Peony laughed harder at the look on Ginji’s face, grinning at him triumphantly, “I really got you going there, huh? Haha, don’t worry, it would be an ethics nightmare if I did that, and Jade would certainly lose his job, which I’m quite sure he doesn’t want to do….”
“Oh? Well, Jade can be objective….All the time…But I’m sure he wouldn’t be that awful….” he paused and thought about Jade as Emperor, “….on second thoughts…” Peony smirked, amused, and shook his head, sighing softly when Ginji brought up that subject, “Ah….Now that would require a willingness on both my part and whichever woman the council sees fit to shove into my face,” he looked out of the window, a slight smile tugging at the corner of his lips, “….I almost married once, several years ago now, but ah, she was fated to someone else….”

Peony smiled at him, grateful that Ginji not only understood, but offered an outlet, too. The pilot treated him like a regular person, and he liked that. A lot.
“I think I might have to take you up on that offer sometime. Just don’t crash the plane whilst I’m in it?” Peony grinned a little, teasing him.
Ginji laughed sheepishly at that statement. Ah, yes… Not crashing the ship would be good- very good.
“I wouldn’t. I’m sure the whole of Malkuth would be pretty livid with me if I hurt their beloved Emperor.” Just a joke. Though he really didn’t want to cause that regardless. “Today was just a… Malfunction of sorts. A little tweaking and it won’t happen again. Promise.”
“Oh yes, you’d be charged with treason for sure. You know what the punishment for that is, don’t you?” Peony looked positively gleeful, rubbing his hands together, “They hand you over to Jade, and then feed whatever’s left afterwards to the rappigs,”

Peony smiled, “Hmm, indeed. Most people wouldn’t consider it possible, given how desirable the position is but….there are things that ordinary people can do that I cannot, and sometimes all the responsibility is….Kind of a chore, you know?” Peony rested his chin on his hand, staring past Ginji at the wall,
“Don’t get me wrong, I love my job but….A break would be nice,” he chuckled softly, “it must be nice….to just be able to fly away from all your problems….”
Laid out like that, the man’s troubles seemed quite understandable. The responsibility and publicity of a job was likely crushing at times. Something he probably would prefer to get away from- at least for a few days out of them all. A break, if you will.
“Well… You can’t always just fly away from your problems. Even I can’t. But, sometimes it’s nice to try… Hey, if you ever need to get out of dodge and take a break, just let me know. I’d be happy to help you out.” After all, even he felt Peony could use a bit of a break, all things considered.
Peony smiled at him, grateful that Ginji not only understood, but offered an outlet, too. The pilot treated him like a regular person, and he liked that. A lot.

“Who could say it was anything but?” Peony wondered, watching him. Uh. To him, the younger man was entirely adorable and amiable, that anyone could think otherwise was…beyond him…,
“Hm? Oh! Of course not, it’s my name, isn’t it?” He laughed softly, “Trust me, Ginji, I have heard enough Your Majestying in a few years to last me several long, long lifetimes,”
“Heh, normally it’s just ‘dork’, with no intentions of it being ‘endearing’,” he laughed. “Not that I mind, truly. I’m content as I am- though the compliment is nice…” A bit unexpected, from the emperor of all people, but, it was nice none the less.
“Good.” For some reason, it comforted him having the opportunity to call him something so casual. “I guess you would get tired of it, huh? There’s some troublesome things about being an Emperor, aren’t there?” Things he hadn’t considered before…

“Hmm, quite…although, Jade did join me here shortly after so I wasn’t too lonely, and I met Aslan around that time,” Peony smiled and nodded. In a way, leaving Keterburg had been a blessing…He had been free of the painful absence of Gelda Nebilim, and…Following Nephry’s score reading that had doomed their relationship…Yes, being away from there had definitely been welcome at that time.
“That’s not a bad thing. I find it rather…Endearing,” Peony chuckled softly, amused.
“That’s good. At least you weren’t lonely.” That certainly would have been a bad side-effect of being an emperor, he thought. It seemed there were more bad things about it than he had considered before now.
“Endearing? That’s certainly one of the nicer ways I’ve heard it described, Peony.” Ah, there he went calling him by his first name again… “Do you mind if I call you that?”
“Who could say it was anything but?” Peony wondered, watching him. Uh. To him, the younger man was entirely adorable and amiable, that anyone could think otherwise was…beyond him…,

“Well, I was born here in the capital, but I grew up in Keterburg, with Jade and Saphir,” he smiled faintly at the memories, shaking his head, “it seems almost a age ago now….I moved back to the capital when I was in my early twenties, to begin to learn how to be an emperor…Or whatever it was my father tried to teach me,” he smirked,
“Were you born in Sheridan?” He asked, wanting to know more about the cute little pilot.
Ginji chuckled a bit at the display of light-hearted humor the emperor showed with his explanation of how he was raised in Keterburg. “I see. Shame you had to leave your friends to come here…” A pain of being an emperor that Ginji had not considered before, it seemed. Losing ones friends like that without choice.
“Ah, yes. I’ve lived in Sheridan my whole life. Which likely explains why I’m such a dork, huh?” He joked, laughing once more.
“Hmm, quite…although, Jade did join me here shortly after so I wasn’t too lonely, and I met Aslan around that time,” Peony smiled and nodded. “Hmm, perhaps, but it does get rather….Dull,” Peony admitted, chuckling when Ginji ducked away. Hehehehe, he was getting wise to his tricks, uh…
“The capital is possibly the nicest city in Malkuth, though I do sometimes miss Keterburg. We rarely have snow here, and nothing beats winter in Keterburg,” he hadn’t ever thought he would miss the cold and feet deep snow…
Dull? Certainly not what Ginji would describe it as- but, maybe that was just because it was a new place to him. The emperor had likely lived here for many years now.
“Ah- so, you’re from Keterburg?” He would have assumed the man was born here, considering his position. “I’ve only had the chance to walk around there once now… It’s a nice place- even if it’s always cold and snowing,” he chuckled. “I’m not too fond of the cold myself.”

Peony chuckled softly, “Don’t worry about it. It’s nice to be treated like a regular person once in a while,” he smirked and ruffled Ginji’s hair as they were shown to a table by a window with a great view of the waterfalls. Okay, he had to admit being emperor did have some perks….
Ah… Was that how Peony felt about it? “I assumed you would have rather been treated properly,” he muttered a bit, almost to himself if anything. Once more he had to bend away as the taller male ruffled his hair, that seeming habit of his. Ah, well… It wasn’t that bad.
“It really is quite nice here,” he commented, peering out the window after they sat down. “I think you’re lucky to be able to live in a place like this.”
“Hmm, perhaps, but it does get rather….Dull,” Peony admitted, chuckling when Ginji ducked away. Hehehehe, he was getting wise to his tricks, uh…

Peony smiled when Ginji took his hand, loosely wrapping his fingers around the younger man’s and stepping inside with him. He didn’t mind at all - rather, he preferred this. His biggest peeve about his position was that everyone but Jade refused to be anything but courteous to him, which Peony found mind-numbingly dull.
This was a very welcome development, indeed!
Ginji didn’t take note of his rather rude gesture until after he had found a suitable place for them to sit inside the small building. It was then he realized that he was quite literally holding hands with the older man- and upon that realization quickly released the other.
“Sorry,” he apologized. “Must be a habit.” A sign he was comfortable around the emperor- though he was sure it was something he likely shouldn’t have done.
Peony chuckled softly, “Don’t worry about it. It’s nice to be treated like a regular person once in a while,” he smirked and ruffled Ginji’s hair as they were shown to a table by a window with a great view of the waterfalls. Okay, he had to admit being emperor did have some perks….

“It’s not a problem,” Peony smiled at him, tucking his hands into his pockets as they walked, absently watching the waterfalls and aqueducts that criss-crossed the city. He took Ginji into the shopping district, and to a small place tucked away into a side street,
“Here we are!”
The city truly was marvelous. Ginji couldn’t help but be quite distracted by the sight of the place as they walked- how could one place be the center of so much water movement? Not the mention the array of fonstones that kept the place here on the water.
Ah- but that was enough looking. It would seem in his distraction that they already made their destination- a small place, slightly hidden off. Which may be a good thing, considering it was the Emperor who stood beside him. “Ah, it looks very nice,” he commented, smiling at the elder. In a display of the blatant nature he was known to show, the pilot actually took Peony’s hand to lead him along into the place, calling back a simple, “Come on, Peony!” As if, for a moment, he forgot it was rather rude to treat an emperor in such a way- why, he even called him by his first name.
